Animated Scene (Oil Field), 2007
Pair of table-mounted monitors, each: 46 x 59 x 21 in (117 x 149 x 54 cm)

The work 'Animated Scene (Oil Field)' presents a pair of oil derricks sited upon a grassland plain, part of a larger group which operates in unison and faces west.

It is based on a scene witnessed by the artist on a recent journey across Texas, and was conceived as a companion to the Dust Storm series (also 2007) for which this journey was originally undertaken. In accordance with the artist‘s practice, the entire scene was documented photographically and all elements reconstructed virtually.

This tableau was then animated and sited within the context of one single year which unfolds according to the exact chronology of the original location.
